A message from the owners, Jack and Ibi
As our business continues to grow, it’s important that we maintain fairness, deliver strong value and provide a high standard of service for everyone in our community.
We believe in being transparent about how and why decisions are made. Like any growing business, we will continue to adapt and evolve over time, whether that relates to our policies, services, facilities, or pricing.
Every decision is carefully considered with the long-term interests of our community, the quality of our offering, and the sustainability of the business in mind. We appreciate your continued support and understanding as we grow together.
Business Sustainability & Pricing
As an independent, privately owned business, it's important that we operate sustainably while continuing to invest in the gym, our services, and our community.
Since opening in 2019, we have made only two membership price adjustments. The first was in September 2023, moving from £150 to £165 per month for our Unlimited membership for existing members. Pricing for new members was updated to £185 per month for Unlimited in February 2026.
From 1st August 2026, membership pricing for all members will be:
Fiver (5 classes per month + Open Gym): £95/month
Niner (9 classes per month + Open Gym): £150/month
Unlimited (unlimited classes + Open Gym): £185/month
Couples (unlimited classes + Open Gym): £320/month
Even with this adjustment, our pricing remains broadly in line with inflation since our last increase in September 2023 and below cumulative inflation since we opened in February 2019.
Over recent years operating costs have increased significantly, including rent, business rates, taxation changes, utilities and supplier expenses. Many of these costs continue to rise and remain subject to ongoing uncertainty. Throughout this period we have absorbed these increases wherever possible and have only adjusted membership pricing when we felt it was genuinely necessary. This is why pricing changes have been infrequent and why existing member rates remained unchanged following the February 2026 increase for new members.
As an owner-operated business we retain full control over how the gym evolves. Without franchise fees or external shareholders we are able to make decisions that prioritise long-term quality, member experience and sustainability. Since day one the owners have worked full-time as coaches, helping to minimise overheads and allowing revenue to be reinvested directly into the gym. This approach has enabled us to absorb rising costs while continuing to improve the facility, expand our services and invest in the member experience.
Should any future pricing changes affect existing members, we will always provide at least one month's notice.
Our focus remains on building a stable, sustainable business and continually improving the environment, facilities and services we provide for the long term.
Past and Present
From the outset continual improvement and long-term growth have been central to our vision for the gym.
Since opening we have reinvested six figures back into the business, upgrading equipment, enhancing facilities and doubling our physical training space. Most recently, we upgraded the downstairs studio with new squat racks featuring cable attachments, along with additional equipment to create a more efficient and versatile training environment across BUILD sessions, Open Gym and 1-2-1 coaching. These investments have enabled us to continually improve the quality, variety and overall training experience we provide.
Over the past three years we have increased our weekly timetable from 27 to 39 classes, improving access to high-demand sessions and giving members greater flexibility in how they train. Some members now attend multiple sessions per day and average more than seven sessions per week, bringing their cost per class to less than £5.
Alongside these improvements we have expanded our programming, introduced additional services and created the capacity to host workshops, seminars, competitions, and community events. These are areas we remain committed to developing further.
Future Plans
We are always looking for ways to improve both our facilities and the services we provide.
Many improvements happen continuously behind the scenes, from facility refurbishments and maintenance to equipment upgrades and timetable enhancements. While these changes may not always be highly visible, they form an important part of our commitment to continually raising standards and improving the member experience.
We are currently completing a series of upgrades to the downstairs studio and wider facility, focused on creating a more efficient training environment and further enhancing the quality of training equipment available. These improvements are being carried out with minimal disruption to sessions and are expected to be completed shortly.
As always we will continue to keep you informed as further plans develop.

Our goal has always been to provide a genuinely high-value service.
We believe value comes from more than just access to a gym. It comes from expert coaching, structured programming, consistency and a welcoming environment that people genuinely enjoy being part of.
That is why our approach is built around high-quality, coach-led training. We provide a progressive and trackable strength programme, supported by multiple opportunities to train throughout the week, allowing members to follow a clear and measurable path of improvement.
Alongside this, members benefit from:
Varied conditioning classes designed to improve overall fitness
Specialist sessions such as Box and Flex
Open Gym access, whether following Onyx programming or training independently
Progress tracking via our app
Workshops, seminars, community events and fitness competitions
Additional services such as 1-to-1 coaching and osteopathy
Our aim is to provide a broad range of options that support different goals, abilities and preferences while maintaining quality and structure throughout.
From the beginning we have sought to offer unlimited group training at a cost that remains lower than one weekly one-to-one personal training session.
Most importantly we want Onyx to be a place you look forward to coming to, a place where training is enjoyable, rewarding and something that adds positively to your week rather than feeling like another task on your to-do list.
Membership Philosophy
We believe people should remain members because they genuinely value what we offer, not because they are tied into long-term contracts.
That philosophy has guided us from the beginning and continues to shape how we operate today. That's why:
• We don't lock members into long-term agreements
• We offer the flexibility to pause or adjust memberships when circumstances change
• We keep cancellation requirements simple and straightforward
We believe trust, flexibility, and delivering a consistently high-quality experience are more important than contractual commitments.

We genuinely value and carefully consider the feedback we receive from our members. It plays an important role in helping us refine what we do and identify opportunities to improve the experience we provide.
